Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Embassy in Qatar received, this Monday, the visit of the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, who is in the country’s capital, Doha, to participate in the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries, representing the Head of State, João Lourenço.

Esperança da Costa toured and observed the different places at the premises of the Diplomatic Mission in Qatar (an Asian country located on the Arabian Peninsula), inaugurated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, on the 22nd of February.

At the end of the visit, Ambassador António Ramos da Cruz conveyed to the press the feeling of the Vice-President that the opening of the diplomatic mission was a good option, in terms of the dignity of representing the country in this Asian State.

On bilateral relations, it should be noted that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, made an official visit to Qatar in 2019, having consolidated the level of relations with the signing of several agreements that are being implemented.

António Ramos da Cruz, appointed roughly a year ago, said that in relation to the Bilateral Cooperation agreements signed, these are fundamentally related to the Transport area, the Mineral Resources sector, Air, which also dates from 2019, which culminated with the opening of the line from Qatar to Luanda.

He also highlighted the initialed instruments on the suppression of visas in the Diplomatic and Service Passport, the one concerning the Reciprocal Protection of Investments and others still under negotiation.

The head of the Diplomatic Mission in Qatar made it known that there is an old intention of businessmen from this emirate to invest in Angola, and recalled the agreement on Commerce, specifically that of the chambers of commerce, which will be reactivated. “In this sense, what we are doing is boosting existing intentions between the two countries”, he clarified.

According to the diplomat, Qatar has already been to Angola trying out certain public investment procedures, so the next step will be to continue attracting them.

As for the existence, or not, of an Angolan community in the emirate, he said that there are compatriots fundamentally in service, as there is no knowledge of immigrants, in addition to citizens under a work contract.

“We have (for example) the footballer Gerson Dala, but most of the Angolans here are in the Oil and Gas sector (…) and some also in Qatar Airways”, he said.
