World leaders congratulate João Lourenço on re-election

Africa-Press – Angola. Yesterday, the United States of America congratulated João Lourenço on his re-election as President of the Republic of Angola.

In a statement made public last Friday, Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, underlines that he hopes to work with João Lourenço “to strengthen the vital relationship between Angola and the United States”.

“We will continue to collaborate closely with the Angolan Government and the Angolan people to advance our shared goals, as we work together to promote a more sustainable, secure, inclusive and prosperous future”, reinforces Blinken.

“We salute the millions of Angolan voters who voted in these elections and, in doing so, demonstrated their commitment to strengthening democracy. We look forward to working in partnership with Angola’s elected leaders to forge a better tomorrow for all Angolans and Americans”, concluded the US Secretary of State.

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) released the final tabulation minutes of the August 24 General Elections, which proclaimed the MPLA and its candidate, João Lourenço, as winners with 51.17% of the votes, electing 124 deputies.

On the other hand, the Head of State of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, also congratulated the MPLA and President João Lourenço yesterday for their victory in the General Elections held on 24 August.

The congratulations are expressed in a message delivered Friday afternoon to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, by the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Angola, Gong Tao.

The President of Portugal yesterday congratulated the elected Head of State of Angola, João Lourenço. In a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo Sousa emphasizes that “after the electoral process was completed, with yesterday’s ruling by the Constitutional Court of Angola, the President of the Republic sent a letter to President João Lourenço, congratulating him or for re-election”.
