Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic considered, yesterday, in Luanda, the vice-champions of the world of football for amputees “a good example” of resilience for all Angolans and that the silver medal won at the World Cup in Turkey tastes like gold

President João Lourenço, who was addressing the athletes, during the reception ceremony held in the Salão Nobre of Cidade Alta, said that, despite having finished second in the Turkish World Cup, the footballers are champions.

“I refuse to consider you runners-up. You are champions”, emphasized the President, stressing that the presence of athletes in Cidade Alta is not only due to this feat, but to all the victories they have won so far. here.

The President said that if one takes into account that the selection was beaten, during the tournament, only once and that it is from among them that the best goalkeeper in the world of football for amputees emerged, there will be no doubt that they are champions .

“If there was a medal above gold, you would bring this medal. But we are going to be content with silver, because with gold we know that many more times they will bring these medals to the joy of Angolans”, he stressed.

The Head of State said he hopes that they will serve as an example so that all Angolans can also answer: “yes”, in the face of the challenges they encounter in life, where everyone is fulfilling their role, with greater or lesser difficulty. .

The President of the Republic stressed that this and other achievements of the football team for amputees will encourage Angolans to overcome the obstacles they face in their professional lives and in their way of being in society.

Internship Center

João Lourenço made it known, on the occasion, that the Internship Center for Paralympic Sports, named after José Sayovo, under construction in the city of Caxito, is expected to be completed within two years.

He said that it will be a well-equipped center with “good conditions” for accommodation and training for all the Paralympic modalities in which Angola has participated, both internally and in international competitions.

“If without any conditions they managed to reach the levels of success that we have all seen over the years, I imagine when we have the internship center”, clarified the President, for whom, with this Internship Center the performance of the athletes will be even greater .

At the end of the ceremony, which was attended by the Ministers of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, and of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion, Ana Paula do Sacramento, the athletes offered the President of the Republic a selection shirt and presented the prize won in the race.
