Africa-Press – Angola. The renowned Angolan writer João Melo presented his latest literary work, entitled “Dreams Are Never Old”, in Brasília on Wednesday. The event, which took place in the library of the Brazilian Federal Senate, marked the beginning of the celebrations commemorating the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence.

During the event, several poems were read, such as “Desmemória”, “Os Africanos”, “Pai- Este é o Último Poema”, and “A Fome é Um Crime Muito Perigoso”, which are part of the work, which is approximately 96 pages long.

The Brazilian writer and lawyer Kakay Castro, the guest presenter, highlighted João Melo’s literary career and plurality, which, as he stated, transcends borders and brings dreams to life without fuss.

In turn, the Angolan ambassador to Brazil, Manuel Eduardo Bravo, who also spoke, recognized the importance of poetry since the beginning of Angola’s liberation and congratulated João Melo on his most recent literary offspring.

In front of a large group of people, made up of deputies, senators, diplomats and Angolans living in the capital of Brazil, João Melo discussed the reason for his new book, this time in the poetry genre, stating that it consists of unpublished poems of a historical, political and social nature.

In this regard, he said that writing the book was an exercise in pleasure and pain because, he added, the times we live in are not easy, they require a lot of courage and determination to overcome the bitterness of the present.

We must not give up the fight, we want a good world for everyone, literature has always been committed to truth, peace and social well-being, he added.

On the sidelines of his work in the Federal Senate, João Melo participated in a lively writers’ circle in Brasília, during which his life and work were the center of attention.

The journalist, who is also on a tour of Brazil, has already been to Minas Gerais where he carried out a similar event, with events also scheduled in the states of Goiania, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.Born in Luanda in 1955, the poet, short story writer, novelist and politician is one of the most important African cultural figures currently active.
