Africa-Press – Angola. Zambia’s ambassador to Angola, Lawrence Chalungumana, announced Tuesday, in Luanda, that negotiations are underway between the two neighboring countries for Zambian participation in the Lobito Refinery Project.

According to the diplomat, who was speaking on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of his country’s Independence, Zambia expressed its interest in investing in the project, with a capacity of 200 thousand barrels of oil per day.

Still in the field of oil, he said, the two countries are also involved in negotiations on an oil pipeline that will connect the two Southern African states.

Lawrence Chalungumana indicated that bilateral cooperation between Angola and Zambia is “increasingly stronger” in several areas, after four official visits made to Angola by President Hakainde Hichilema this year.

In addition to oil, the two countries also cooperate in the areas of infrastructure, health, agriculture and trade, among others.

He considered the Lobito Corridor as the largest connecting infrastructure project between Angola and Zambia, through the Benguela Railway and the road network.

According to the Zambian diplomat, the project is at an advanced stage and the three corridor countries (Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo) are working with international partners, including the United States Government, the European Union and the Bank African Development, among others.

Zambia’s independence anniversary is celebrated this year under the motto “Accelerating national development through equitable distribution of resources”.
