Africa-Press – Angola. The Consul General of the Republic of Zambia, in the province of Moxico, Bonifácio Musumali, reaffirmed, this Tuesday, in Luena, that his country’s government is committed to investing in infrastructure for interconnection with Angola by rail.
Speaking during the celebrations of that country’s 59th anniversary of Independence, he reiterated that the Zambian government is investing in the development of infrastructure in the Lobito Corridor, to allow the two countries to be connected across the Jimbe border.
The diploma highlighted that the aforementioned connection will allow greater access to markets and services between countries in the region.
The Lobito Corridor has been managed, since November 2022, by the Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) consortium, made up of the companies Trafigura (49.5%), Mota-Engil (49.5%) and Vecturis SA (1%) . The company is responsible for providing railway services and the logistical infrastructure to support the location.
With an initial investment of 248.2 million dollars, the project expects to create, during 30 years of management, 1,900 direct jobs, of which 1,800 for national citizens.
It is up to the manager, Lobito Atlantic Railway, to rehabilitate, expand and modernize the railway infrastructures throughout the provinces of Benguela, Huambo and Moxico on a route of 1300 kilometers and then continues for 400 km in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Kolwezi, the heart of the Copperbelt, in the Republic of Zambia.

He reinforced that this challenge requires a collective effort, including the inclusion of civil society organizations, private sector actors and ordinary citizens.
