Zambia reiterates intention to export miners through CFB

Africa-Press – Angola. The minister (governor) of the western province of Zambia, Kapelwa Mbangweta, reiterated, this Wednesday, in Luena, that his country maintains its intention to export miners to the rest of the world via the Benguela Railway (CFB), the largest railway line in Angola.

Kapelwa Mbangweta reaffirmed this commitment, after visiting the Luau border post, which connects to the DRC, noting that there is an “urgent” need to build the railway branch linking the municipality of Luacano (Angola) to the Jimbe region (Zambia), in an extension of 300 kilometers.

In 2019, the Benguela Railway (CFB) began to move ores from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), 34 years after its closure, with the CFB management highlighting, at the time, 16 thousand tons of minerals from the DRC, namely manganese and copper concentrate.

As he said, the connection of the Zambian railway line to the CFB, a railway line that crosses Angola from west to east, will reduce the costs spent on exporting miners outside Africa.

Zambia concentrates extensive deposits of the known “Central African copper belt”, located in the mining regions of the province of Copperbert, followed by the DRC and the extreme east of Angola, in the municipality of Alto Zambeze.

The vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of Moxico, Victor da Silva, recalled that the connection of the railway branch from Angola to Zambia is an infrastructure project of capital economic and political importance in Southern Africa.

According to the official, the connection between the two countries will increase the flow of commercial and economic activity, as well as facilitate entrepreneurs and businessmen in the transport of various goods, in addition to attracting investments and equipment to promote the country’s economic growth.

“This will be an important step towards economic integration at the level of Southern Africa, which will make it possible to quickly reach the country’s level of development”, he predicted.

The minister (governor) of the Western province of Zambia, Kapelwa Mbangweta, traveled by CFB train to the border municipality of Luau, Moxico province, to identify potential areas of cooperation within the framework of a memorandum of cooperation between the two regions .
