Africa-Press – Botswana. Residents of Kanye and surrounding areas have been urged to donate antiques, photographs, archival materials, books and artefacts to Kgosi Bathoen II Museum.

The call was made by the museum curator, Ms Boemo Otsile during a market day aimed at creating partnerships with the local community and to encourage them to be friends of the facility.

Explaining that the museum was in a dynamically shifting world where time honoured methods were becoming outdated and ineffective, she urged residents to come on board to ensure it was properly promoted and marketed.

Ms Otsile said the museum was a fully registered trust and one of the seven regional museums in the country.

Its mandate was to oversee the Southern District heritage through the promotion of Botswana’s culture and natural heritage, she said. Ms Otsile said services offered included tours, bureau of information and educational outreach as well as heritage and historic sites such as the old cemetery, Bathoen II Dam, silos, Mmamokhasi Dam, Kgwakgwe Hill and Pharing Gorge.

She said the intension was to make the market day, the museum’s first, an annual event with exhibitors from all over the southern region.
