Africa-Press – Botswana. Different speakers spoke highly of the late Kgosi Tendani Manyiwa of Mafhungo/Hubona during his burial on Saturday.
Kgosi Manyiwa, who was described as an individual who spoke his mind candidly, died August 9 after a short illness.
His daughter Ms Khumo Manyiwa said her father was very decisive and would not be easily influenced to change his mind.
She said he would not do the bidding for anyone whether a family member, a friend or anyone if such a person was wrong.
“He ensured that such a person faced up to their wrongs without fear or favour,” she said of her late father.
His friend, Mr Pelaelo Mampare said Kgosi Manyiwa was intelligent, something he attributed to his rise through the ranks to attain the position of a Senior Superintendent in the Botswana police where he served until 1990.
He said even after serving the police force for 25 years, the late kgosi continued to serve his community, as he became the Secretary-General for Head Mountain of God Apostolic Church in Zion, a position he held from 1975 to 2018 when he was appointed Bishop.
He was appointed headmen of records in 2016, a position he served in until his death.
Member of Parliament for Shashe West Mr Fidelis Molao told mourners that Kgosi Manyiwa was instrumental in his rise to politics right from 2010 when he began his political journey.
“Kgosi was very vocal about the developments and services needed in his village. As much as he persuaded the government to develop his people he also called on his subjects to be self-reliant,” he said citing the construction of the Mafhungo/Hubona kgotla offices as an example of the many community projects that were initiated by Kgosi Manyiwa.
He thus asked the morafe to continue where Kgosi Manyiwa left off adding that the reconstruction of the A3 road that had been a source of discomfort for the nation was one project that the late Kgosi advocated for.
Kgosi Manyiwa is survived by his wife, sister, two sons and three daughters as well as 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
