Africa-Press – Botswana. Plans are underway to establish a step down substation in Letlhakane sourcing power from the Mmatshumo power station to supply villages in the peripheries like Mosu.
Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said this during a kgotla meeting he addressed in Mosu on Monday.
The objective, he said, was to augment the existing substation in Letlhakane to ensure efficient power supply.
Mr Lelatisitswe stated that power supply challenges experienced by the residents were due to the fact that Boteti East was supplied from the Sebina sub-station. An official from Botswana Power Corporation, Mr Mbathi Kgwarae said the aim was to upgrade the Letlhakane substation to address challenges of power cuts, noting that there was currently no alternative solution except to augment the substation.
He stated that an official communication platform has been established with the village leadership to accord the residents an opportunity to inform the corporation whenever there was a power cut.
Mr Kgwarae advised the residents to unplug all electrical appliances during power cuts to protect them from damage at the time of power restoration.
Mr Lelatisitswe was responding to concerns raised by the residents that frequent power cuts damaged their properties, also affected water pressure as well as mobile and internet connectivity.
In addition Mr Lelatisitswe stated that Mosu-Mmatshumo and Khwee roads would be included in the National Development Plan 12, indicating that designs for both roads were underway.
For her part, the Village Development Committee chairperson, Ms Botsalo Njang expressed concern that IDCC patients were suffering as the officer responsible was on sick leave.
Ms Njang also decried shortage of classrooms at Makgadikgadi Junior Secondary School indicating that the multipurpose hall was used to accommodate five classes. She also requested an update on the dates for packaging LIMID applicants in Mosu.
