Africa-Press – Botswana. No fatalities have been recorded following a fire outbreak at Chobe Marina Lodge in Kasane.

In an interview , Kasane Police acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Othusitse Marape said they received a report on Sunday morning indicating that the lodge was engulfed by fire.

Upon arrival at the scene, Assistant Superintendent Marape said the fire had completely ravaged the administration block with no fatalities or injuries recorded.

He said Chobe fire department extinguished the fire though it was not an easy task because the building had a thatched roof which caused the flames to spread quickly.

However, he said that generators were deployed to pump water from Chobe River to complement the fire trucks, an undertaking that brought the situation under control.

He said investigations were underway to establish the cause of the fire and the preliminary report indicated that it originated from the kitchen.

Chobe Marina Lodge human resource officer, Ms Lesego Israel stated that no fatalities were recorded from the incident adding that the staff was undergoing trauma assessment and counselling.

She said the fire sparked from the kitchen then spread to the administration block, restaurant and bar area.

Only one block of accommodation comprising four rooms burnt down.
