Africa-Press – Botswana. Marco Van Basten, a former Dutch forward, does not consider that Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are among the three best players in the history of football and reveals, in statements to ‘France Football’, who, for him, are the biggest stars of the sport.
“Pelé, Maradona and Cruyff are, for me, the three best players in history. When I was little I wanted to be like Cruyff. He was my friend, I miss him. Pele and Maradona were also incredible”, he began by saying.
He continued: “Messi is also a magnificent player, but Maradona has always had more personality in the team. Messi is not the one who puts himself in the front line to go ‘to war’. And I don’t forget names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Platini or Zidane”, he concluded.
It is recalled that Marco Van Basten, Ballon d’Or on three occasions – 1988, 1989, 1992 – retired at the age of 28 following several injuries.
