Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi says Botswana and Belgium are equally concerned by the significance of diamonds and are eager to protect the industry.

Receiving a delegation from Belgium on October 25 at the Office of the President led by the director of economic interests in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Mathias Haerynck, President Masisi said the visit was aimed at discussing important issues affecting both countries in relation to the security of supply of diamonds and to mitigate any potential disruptions and risks to the sector.

The President said Botswana produced diamonds while Belgium had the technology and innovation in the industry.

He said he and the Belgium Prime Minister, Mr Alexander De Croo shared a common understanding on what they wanted to achieve in the industry and that he had pledged to work with him.

Mr Haerynck delivered a letter to President Masisi from Prime Minister De Croo.
