Africa-Press – Botswana. The Minister of Sport and Arts, Honourable Jacob Kelebeng, officiated the ground breaking ceremony for the Montshiwa grounds in Kanye. The project forms part of Betway’s national initiative, Building Neighbourhood Dreams, which aims to support community development through corporate social responsibility. Kanye is the first beneficiary of this programme.
In his remarks, Hon. Kelebeng highlighted the challenges facing local talent, noting that access to sporting and arts infrastructure remains limited. He emphasized that Betway Botswana’s contribution of P4.3 million will help address these gaps and enable young athletes and artists to thrive.
Betway Country Manager, Ms. France-Mabiletsa, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving access to sports facilities nationwide through Building Neighbourhood Dreams. She said the initiative reflects Betway’s dedication to creating opportunities for communities to engage in productive and positive activities.
The Montshiwa facility will feature a racing track, football pitch, ablution blocks, tuckshop stalls, and a storeroom. The development is expected to enhance sports participation, foster talent development, and contribute to social cohesion.
Kanye District Council Chairman, Morapedi Kgosithebe, expressed gratitude to Betway, noting that the project will not only improve sports engagement but also help curb social ills in the community.
The ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Arts, Ms. Nancy Neo Chengeta, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ms. Boineelo Hardy, and 400m and 400m x 4 World Champion Collen Kebinatshipi, alongside other dignitaries.
The Montshiwa grounds project represents a significant step towards enabling Botswana’s youth to access quality sporting infrastructure while promoting community development through sustainable partnerships.
