Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana’s participation at the ongoing JCK diamond show presents a unique and exciting opportunity for retailers, entrepreneurs, and consumers of natural diamonds.
It is a chance to be in the presence of the priceless stones that have significantly transformed the Southern African state over the years.
Not only that, the golden moment allowed consumers to hear about the beauty that has resulted from the gems at the centre of Botswana’s remarkable development success story.
President Advocate Duma Boko made these remarks during a fireside chat on Friday with Robb Report, an American luxury lifestyle magazine that dates back to 1976, watch and jewellery editor, Ms Paige Reddinger.
President Boko said in a nutshell that the country’s feature at the JCK show, a craze and the most incredible diamond show in North America, was a bold step to showcase the holistic, remarkable story and the impact that natural diamonds had on Botswana.
As the world’s largest supplier of diamonds by value, Botswana saw an opportunity to take the lead in the diamond industry through collaboration with like-minded partners worldwide.
“Botswana wants to position itself as a place where connections are made, where we build durable partnerships and where the diamond industry will find a firm foundation and a solid springboard to reach out to the world,” said President Boko.
He stated that the Botswana and De Beers partnership must serve as an inspiration for future alliances of this kind.
President Boko emphasised the importance of sharing Botswana’s success stories, highlighting the origin of natural diamonds, a crucial step in countering the threat of lab-grown diamonds and maintaining the industry’s reputation.
Natural diamonds, he said, were the reason communities, nations and the world survived and throve, as was the case in Botswana.
He expressed hope in the future where Botswana would become the diamond capital of the world, adding that efforts were already in place to start the ball rolling through the notion of mineral beneficiation, which would catapult the setting up of diamond manufacturing plants and industries that would spur production of locally inspired brands.
President Boko also reassured his audience that Botswana would leverage its strong relations with the United States government to navigate the tariffs imposed on its diamonds, thereby instilling confidence.
