Africa-Press – Botswana. As a nation state eager to join emerging economies that have rapidly progressed toward high income status, Botswana is open to investment from successful markets such as Qatar and learn from the robust and diversified Qatari economy.

President Advocate Duma Boko expressed these sentiments while welcoming senior Qatari political and business figure, Sheikh Mansour Bin Jabor Bin Jassim Al Thani, who paid a courtesy call to the Office of the President on August 20.

Leading a delegation from Qatar to explore investment projects in Botswana, former prime minister, Sheikh Mansour Bin Jabor Bin Jassim Al Thani, who has also served as Qatar Minister of Foreign Affairs, also a leading entrepreneur with a wide portfolio of businesses, was assured of Botswana’s yearning for the collaboration.

“We welcome you to Botswana, a warm safe and friendly country, a developing country bristling with hope. We are facing challenges that we need to find solutions for, we have been heavily reliant on diamonds. We are looking to sustain our involvement in natural diamonds and diversity our economy,” President Boko said.

He added that as Botswana yearned to expand revenue income streams and develop industries the country was inspired by Qatar’s rapid development.

“Qatar pulled off an amazing feat, from zero toward developed level despite facing a blockade, including rapidly developing a robust milk production industry from scratch.

We look forward to working together in the dairy industry, agriculture, mining and other sectors that could be identified,” President Boko stated.

The President wished Sheikh Jassim and his delegation fruitful discussions in identifying key projects to invest in, stressing that Botswana was ready and eager to see new business projects developed.

The Qatar delegation is in the country to establish strategic partnership for major infrastructure and development projects.

During their stay, they will be meeting different ministries and key stakeholders such as state owned enterprises, and captains of industry across different sectors of the economy, and identify projects that could be undertaken.
