Botswana Police Service Donates House to Lejwana Resident

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Botswana Police Service through its Southern Division donated a two bedroom house at Lejwana village this morning, 22 December 2025, marking a significant act of community service and social responsibility. The donation reflects the Service’s commitment to improving lives beyond its core law enforcement mandate.

Giving the keynote address, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations Katlholo Mosimanegape emphasized that police officers are first members of the community before they become law enforcers. He said officers live within society and share the same social values and responsibilities as other citizens. As Batswana, he noted, police officers are guided by national values such as botho, which they demonstrate through their daily duties and initiatives like the Lejwana house donation.

Deputy Commissioner Mosimanegape commended officers from the Southern Division for their strong spirit of volunteerism and patriotism. He praised their collective contribution to community development and said the house would do more than restore hope to the beneficiary. He described it as a lasting generational heritage that would benefit the family for years to come. He explained that a home is more than walls and a roof. It is a place of safety where families grow, children develop confidence and values of respect, discipline and responsibility are shaped.

Addressing the beneficiary, Ms Shoti Manele, a 68 year old resident of Lejwana village, the Deputy Commissioner wished her a fresh beginning filled with stability, happiness and meaningful memories. He said the new home symbolized care, dignity and community support.

Providing an overview of the project, Divisional Commander Southern Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Israel Tuelo explained that the initiative was first conceptualized in 2020. Progress was interrupted by the COVID 19 pandemic, which forced the project to be put on hold. He added that construction resumed after police officers raised P350 000 through personal contributions. Building work officially began in April 2023.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Tuelo also expressed sincere appreciation to a business entity that supported the project by donating essential materials such as floor tiles, paint and furniture. He said the support played a key role in ensuring the house was completed to a comfortable standard.

In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Neo Letlhare of Lejwana village applauded the Botswana Police Service for the generous donation. He described the gesture as a strong example of partnership between the police and the community. He also acknowledged the opening of a police post in the village in 2023, noting that it had strengthened safety and improved service delivery in the area.

The donation of the two bedroom house stands as a clear demonstration of the Botswana Police Service Southern Division’s dedication to community upliftment. Through shared values, sacrifice and collaboration, the officers have delivered a project that restores dignity and reinforces trust between the police and the people they serve.
