On 6 December 2025, Botswana and Uganda joined forces to host a Tourism Roadshow aimed at promoting their top travel destinations and fostering partnerships within the regional tourism sector. The event brought together key stakeholders from both countries to explore opportunities for collaboration and cross-border tourism growth.

The Roadshow opened with presentations from Botswana Tourism, the Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB), and representatives from Uganda’s tourism sector. Each presentation highlighted flagship destinations, unique experiences, and upcoming initiatives designed to attract both regional and international travelers. Botswana showcased its wildlife safaris, cultural heritage sites, and luxury lodges, while Uganda focused on its natural attractions, including the source of the Nile, mountain gorilla trekking, and eco-tourism ventures.

Following the presentations, a networking session provided a platform for tourism operators, travel agencies, hotel owners, and industry experts from both countries to connect. Discussions centered on potential joint marketing campaigns, tour packages combining experiences from both nations, and strategies for improving accessibility and visitor experiences. Stakeholders expressed optimism about leveraging each country’s strengths to create integrated tourism offerings that appeal to diverse travelers.

Organizers emphasized that the Roadshow is part of a broader strategy to strengthen regional tourism, enhance economic growth, and showcase Africa’s rich cultural and natural heritage. The event also aimed to position Botswana and Uganda as key destinations within Southern and East Africa, encouraging travelers to explore multi-country itineraries.

Participants highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing common challenges such as transport infrastructure, marketing reach, and sustainable tourism practices. The engagement session underscored a shared commitment to boosting tourism while preserving natural resources and cultural assets.

The joint Tourism Roads

Minister of Sport and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng, has confirmed that the appointment of a substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) will be finalized soon. The announcement comes after a prolonged recruitment process that began in May 2025, following the expiration of former CEO Tuelo Serufho’s contract.

Since Serufho’s departure, Makuke Makuke has served as interim CEO. His initial six-month contract was extended while the search for a permanent appointee continued. Minister Kelebeng stated, “The appointment will be made anytime, either in December or January, and let the process unfold itself. What I know is that the process is on, as to who will be appointed, we will know when it is complete.”

The BNSC has faced heightened public attention over the recruitment process, as stakeholders and the sports community have been awaiting clarity on the leadership of the commission. The appointment of a substantive CEO is expected to provide stability and strengthen strategic planning for sports development across the country.

BNSC Board Chairperson, Marumo Morule, highlighted that the CEO’s appointment is guided by the BNSC Act. He emphasized that the minister makes the final decision in consultation with the board, ensuring the process adheres to legal and governance frameworks.

The new CEO will play a key role in implementing national sports policies, promoting athlete development, and enhancing Botswana’s presence in regional and international sporting events. The appointment is anticipated to bring renewed focus on programs that support grassroots sports, talent identification, and the professional management of national sporting bodies.
