Africa-Press – Botswana. Ex-spy and Directorate of Intelligence and Security agent, Welheminah ‘Butterfly’ Maswabi is back on the prosecution’s books.

Maswabi, who was acquitted and discharged of all charges by the High Court in August 2021 will have to wait and see if the state will reinstate her charges as the prosecution so wishes.

This morning, the Court of Appeal set aside the orders that acquitted her of all charges last year and even set aside the orders that referred those involved in her prosecution for investigation.

Judge President Tebogo Tau said when delivering judgment in favour of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions that “it was incompetent for the High Court to acquit the respondent on all charges levelled against her”.
