Africa-Press – Botswana. China has officially handed over a forensic autopsy laboratory to Botswana, marking a key milestone in the countries’ bilateral relations. The donation aims to support Botswana’s infrastructural development and enhance its capacity for forensic investigations.
Minister for State President, Hon. Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, received the laboratory and described the event as a significant celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Botswana and China, established in 1975. He highlighted that the project reflects China’s commitment to supporting Botswana’s socio-economic growth.
The donation includes the renovation and full equipping of the Northern Jubilee Hospital Mortuary. This facility will strengthen Botswana’s post-mortem capabilities, improve investigative procedures, and enhance national security by facilitating more efficient crime detection.
Minister Mohwasa expressed gratitude on behalf of Batswana for China’s ongoing support, noting that the laboratory reinforces cooperation between the two governments in law enforcement and anti-crime initiatives. He emphasized that such investments directly contribute to national development and public safety.
The forensic autopsy laboratory will serve as a critical resource for medical and legal professionals, ensuring higher standards in forensic examinations.
