Africa-Press – Botswana. Residents of Difetlhamomo and Kgale View sub-districts gathered in Gaborone to hear Deputy Premier Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe discuss the Botswana Economic Transformation Program (BTEP) and its progress. The program is designed to revive Botswana’s economy and create opportunities for citizens.
Deputy Premier Gaolathe reported that the program had received approximately 7,000 ideas from the public. He confirmed that all submissions were accepted initially and are now undergoing refinement to identify the most viable projects.
After extensive filtering and analysis, about 300 ideas remain. These projects have been assessed as feasible and largely do not require significant government resources for implementation. Most of the ideas involve practical requirements such as permits, access to land, and basic infrastructure.
The Deputy Premier emphasized that Batswana will be kept informed throughout the implementation process. Transparency is a key part of the program, allowing citizens to ask questions, provide feedback, and hold responsible parties accountable.
BTEP represents a participatory approach to economic development, combining public input with strategic government planning. By empowering citizens to contribute ideas, the initiative aims to accelerate economic growth while promoting civic engagement and accountability.
Deputy Premier Gaolathe encouraged residents to continue supporting the program, highlighting that citizen involvement is critical to its success and to the broader goal of transforming Botswana’s economic landscape.
