Africa-Press – Botswana. The Ministry of Lands and Agriculture is gearing up for a significant national launch of the Botswana CI-GCF Ecosystem Based Adaptation and Mitigation in Botswana’s Communal Rangelands Project.
This initiative, known locally as tsosolosa mahudiso le go itepatepanya le phetogo ya loapi, aims to enhance the resilience of Botswana’s communal rangelands and support the livelihoods of the communities that depend on them in the face of climate change.
Speaking in an interview Dr Tshephang Moeng, the acting district agricultural coordinator revealed that the event was scheduled for May 12 in Tsabong, which emphasises the project’s commitment to engaging local communities.
“This project is a collaborative effort supported by Conservation International and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), focused on implementing ecosystem-based adaptation and mitigation strategies within Botswana’s communal rangelands. These strategies harness the power of nature to enhance the capability of ecosystems and communities to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change, while also contributing to climate mitigation efforts,”Dr Moeng explained.
The national launch will provide a platform to officially introduce the project’s objectives, scope, and expected benefits to a diverse audience, including government officials, community leaders, conservation organizations, and members of the media.
Dr Moeng emphasised the event’s role in highlighting the importance of investing in natural solutions to combat the challenges posed by climate change within the rangeland context.
