Africa-Press – Botswana. Debswana mining company continues to positively impact on communities through its Employee Volunteerism Programme.

In an effort to contribute towards improvement of quality of education in Boteti region, Debswana Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines’ Ore Processing department donated standard four and seven revision books to Khwee Primary School. The donation amounting to P70 000 also comprised football and netball kits as well as some footballs and netballs.

Senior Ore Processing Manager at Orapa Letlhakane & Damtshaa Mines, Mr Osefelepelo Mathe pointed that the company had allocated its different departments to villages and settlements in Boteti for voluntary initiatives aimed at improving communities in the region.

The Ore Processing Department was therefore allocated two villages of Khwee and Mmadikola. He highlighted that the programme encouraged employees to build stronger linkages and partnerships externally to drive Debswana’s purpose to ‘making life brilliant’.

Kgosi Meshack Tseleng of Khwee commended Debswana for the noble gesture, noting that Khwee as a remote area village was faced with challenges of accessing essential services. On education part, Kgosi Tseleng said schools in remote areas were understaffed and lacked resources, something which impacted negatively on the quality of education and opportunities for children.
