Forensic Auditors Red Flag 30 Entities

Africa-Press – Botswana. Alvarez and Marcell, the Dubai firm engaged by government, has red flagged 30 entities for the eagerly awaited forensic audit, with President Duma Boko, today launching the operational start of the probe.

Speaking this morning at the launch of the public engagement platform, Boko said that the forensic audit, which is being conducted in three phases, is on the right track. He pointed out that the first phase of the process has been completed.

The forensic audit, recently launched by the UDC government, is to investigate, assess, and identify corruption, fraud, and embezzlement risks across government ministries, government departments, state-owned enterprises, regulatory, as well as oversight bodies.

“I am pleased to inform you that the project is on the right track, and phase one of the project has been completed,” Boko said.

The President further stated that the first phase entailed a rigorous process of risk profiling of these entities.

“The project team determined the 30 audits to be conducted as agreed with the A&M team. The forensic audit is now in phase two, which entails the detailed audit of the 30 entities to be covered under the schedule established by and between the government and A&M. We will recall that the government established the project’s steering committee and the technical working group, supported by an administration team, which we call collectively the project team,” Boko said.

Explaining why the need to engage the public, the President expressed that as the audit progresses, the project team advised him that they are at a stage where it has become necessary to invite members of the public to come forward and provide any information that they may have on corrupt practices, fraud, or any embezzlement of public resources.

“I am here today to launch the public engagement platform through which members of the public may share information, knowledge, experience, or evidence on any acts of corruption, fraud, or embezzlement of public resources for personal gain, directly or indirectly, in or involving any public sector entity. If you know something, please say something, “ Boko explained.

Minister for State President, Moeti Mohwasa, previously told Parliament in April that the auditors will conduct up to 30 forensic audits following the assessment performed for the audit planning stage.
