Africa-Press – Botswana. Former President of Botswana, His Excellency, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, on 08 February said uninterrupted movement of persons, good and services between Namibia and Botswana is important as an anchor for consolidating the unity between the two neighbouring states, when he inspected the Mamuno One-Stop border post, constructed on the premises of the former Buitepos border post.
Masisi was welcomed by the Omaheke Governor, Honourable Pijoo Nganate, accompanied by the regional leadership and representatives from the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA).
NamRA stated that Masisi toured the border post, noting the progress on the one-stop facility and stressing the importance of strengthening trade between the two neighbours. A key part of this depends on the effective facilitation of seamless cross-border movement.
Chief Strategic Communication and Support Engagements Officer at NamRA, Yarukeekuro Ndorokaze indicated that the passenger and commercial terminals are nearly complete with the focus now on effective project commissioning. “The One-Stop Border Post project reaffirms Namibia and Botswana’s commitment to regional integration and efficient border management.”
NamRA explained that Namibia and Botswana agreed in September 2022 to establish the integrated border post on the Trans-Kalahari Highway at the Mamuno Border Post, to enhance trade facilitation and to ensure hassle-free border crossing.
