Africa-Press – Botswana. Gaborone West Police partnered with key stakeholders on Saturday, 8 November 2025, for a joint law enforcement operation across the policing area. The coordinated effort aimed to enhance public safety and address a range of criminal activities through collaboration between law enforcement agencies, utility companies, and community partners.

The operation featured night patrols, sporadic roadblocks, and stop, question and search exercises. These activities were designed to detect and deter criminal behavior, while promoting visible policing across major routes and residential areas. The initiative also provided a platform for stakeholders to engage directly in enforcement processes by identifying their products and assets during inspections.

The joint exercise targeted several high-risk areas, focusing on stolen goods, illegal immigration, false motor vehicle registration plates, and violations of liquor and trade licences. It also sought to curb the theft of copper cables and lithium batteries, crimes that have increasingly disrupted essential services and infrastructure.

Participating organizations included the Botswana Defence Force, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation, Botswana Power Corporation, BOFINET, Gaborone City Council Bye Law Enforcement Unit, Orange Botswana, Mascom Wireless, and local crime prevention members. Each entity played a key role in strengthening surveillance, resource sharing, and coordination throughout the operation.

The initiative reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining community safety. Law enforcement officers and stakeholders worked together to identify vulnerabilities, address immediate threats, and promote public awareness about crime prevention.

Officials commended the exercise as an example of effective inter-agency cooperation. The Gaborone West Police stated that such partnerships remain vital for sustaining security and protecting national infrastructure. The success of the operation demonstrated that when institutions unite behind a common goal, the results directly benefit citizens through safer communities and reduced criminal activity.

The police urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities and protecting property. The collaboration highlighted a shared commitment to keeping Gaborone West secure, resilient, and responsive to the evolving challenges of urban policing.
