Africa-Press – Botswana. Two table tennis players, Reneilwe Lekorwe and Boitlamo Nkele emerged as champions in their respective categories at the Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) Junior Smash Botswana Open held at Babusi Hall in Gaborone over the weekend.
Sponsored by Phoenix Assurance Botswana, the tournament attracted promising players from various clubs and BTTA development projects. Reneilwe, representing Smash Maniacs Table Tennis Club, clinched the boys’ title by defeating Thato Kgongwana of the Bontleng/Ithuteng BTTA development project with a score of 3-1 in the final. Boitlamo secured a victory in the girls’ category, overcoming her teammate Lefa Tsiaka, also from the Bontleng/Ithuteng project, with a similar scoreline.
Prior to this tournament, Reneilwe showcased remarkable talent in South Africa, winning the U13 boys title at the UMGTTA tournament in Pietermaritzburg after defeating Milo Katz. He also made it to the quarter-finals in the U15 category.
Additionally, Reneilwe was a key player on the BTTA junior national team that recently earned a gold and three silver medals at the Johannesburg Table Tennis Association (JTTA) Open Championship held from April 26-28, 2025. In the U13 boys singles, he triumphed over his teammate Tinashe Dzvaka, while Boitlamo finished with a silver medal in the U13 girls singles after losing to South Africa’s Tamika Van As.
