Africa-Press – Botswana. Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Botswana has capped just over 800 graduates in a graduation ceremony held under the theme ‘Designing The Future’ at the institution campus’ Hall of Fame in Gaborone.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony the assistant minister of Education and Skills Development, Aubrey Lesaso said implored the graduates to use the skills and knowledge acquired from the learning institution.
He said Limkokwing University is a leader in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry and the class of 2022 should be inspired by trailblazers in the working industry while assisting the government to create employment. “The Graduating Class of 2022, you the creative, the entrepreneurial-minded, the innovative and the market ready can transform the country to a high-income status which is anchored on the transformation from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy. The transformation to a high-income status entails accurately putting together pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, such as infrastructure, doing business and competitiveness, human capital, ICT infrastructure and access.”
“Infrastructural development alone without the complement of doing business and competitiveness support will not produce the desired results, nor will Infrastructural Development and Infrastructure lead to the desired results without the backing and support of thriving human capital. I wish to add that ICT comes in as a bedrock and foundation as the world transits to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and I am assured that this remains the key strength of Limkokwing University,” Lesaso said.
For his part, Limkokwing Botswana vice-chancellor, Dr Raphael Dingalo lauded the government for increasing the tertiary school enrolment by more than 10% as he said this has been a significant increase in the number of youths accessing tertiary education. Dingalo further said from the learning institution the graduates have acquired skills to be world-leading innovators. He said through these skills graduates should be motivated to enter the work market as job creators. “The decision by government through the Tertiary Education Policy of 2009 to increase the tertiary education gross enrolment ratio from 11.4% in 2007–2008 to 25% by 2026 was intentional and well intended. This policy change has led to a significant increase in the number of youths accessing tertiary education, and by the same token, an increase in the youth graduating into the market. In the market, one can be a job seeker or a job creator, so we must make those informed choices.”
“It is however evident that there are very few job openings hence many graduates must look to being job creators. To be job creators, we need to be innovators of note. Innovation is a process by which a domain, product, or service is renewed and brought up to date by applying new processes, introducing new techniques, or establishing successful ideas to create new value. It, therefore, goes without saying, that as we graduate today, we also need to graduate our thinking and become more innovators to come up with new products and services thus creating value.
The Limkokwing Botswana class of 2022 was graduating from the faculties of Communication, Media and Broadcasting, Creative Multimedia, Business and Globalisation, Design and Innovation, Information Technology and Architect, and Built Environment.
