Africa-Press – Botswana. With six games remaining until the curtain falls, the battle for honours and survival gains exciting traction with every passing weekend in the Debswana First Division South league campaign.

Exciting Ramotswa-based outfit Magosi FC inched closer to run away log leaders Police XI after a convincing 2-1 victory away to City Polar FC in Tlokweng on Saturday.

Two strikes in each half from Patrick Kaunda and Thabang Mooketsi were enough to seal a resounding victory for Magosi and hand maximum points to gaffer Nelson Olebile against his former employers.

Magosi tied on 29 points with Jwaneng Young Strikers cemented their second spot position after last week’s narrow 1-0 win in Tsabong.

Against Magosi, Polar were keen to grab all the points but proved indecisive in front of goal and thus punished by a lucky visiting side.

Magosi just like they did in Tsabong last week scored as early as the first minute and were content on sitting back and absorbing pressure the better half of the match.

Kaunda produced and excellent half volley to open the scoreline on the first whistle before Mooketsi put the game beyond reach on the 75th minute.

On the other hand, Young Stars FC punished Notwane and compounded their woes after a 2-1 away victory.

It was a second consecutive loss for MaCat as Notwane are fondly called by their loyal fan base following last week’s 0-1 loss away to equally struggling Sand Diamonds FC.

Prisons XI lifted off the relegation dogfight with a 2-1 victory against Taung Young Strikers who were looking to close the top four bracket.

Sand Diamonds were unable to repeat the feat as they fell 0-3 to on form Holy Ghost FC.

The Holy Boys have been on a good run since the start of the second round, winning all their opening five matches.

The first division south league battles began Friday with log leaders Police XI scalping visiting Desert Nxau 6-0 at the Otse Police College.

Relegation-bound, Desert Boys have a mammoth task as the league winds up with several trips away from home.City Polar are seated mid table and showing determination to move into the top four bracket.
