Africa-Press – Botswana. Malak Macheng has signed a one-year sponsorship agreement with Choppies Botswana, making her the first local tennis player to achieve such a feat.
Choppies Botswana marketing and public relations executive, Kebonyemodisa Kebonyemodisa said in an interview that they decided to support an upcoming female player, Malak based on her records.
The sponsorship includes air tickets to and from major competitions, tennis regalia and equipment as well as a monthly allowance.
“As one of the youngest female athletes, we feel she should focus on her performances on the tennis court without worrying about where she would get money to travel to the next competition,” he said.
Although the sponsorship is only for a year, Kebonyemodisa indicated that Choppies would be willing to re-new on a yearly basis depending on the outcome of the agreement.
Meanwhile, Malak’s mother, Bonnie Macheng said the sponsorship came at the right time and would make a big difference since tennis equipment was expensive with prices ranging between P3 000 and P5 000.
She said it would also help Malak to stay focused on her play since all her needs would catered for by the sponsor.
She said she would continue to encourage Malak to work hard and bring results and not disappoint the sponsor.
