Africa-Press – Botswana. The proposed Palapye Primary Hospital site is located on the northern outskirts of Palapye.
Answering a question in Parliament on Monday, Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale said the plot neighboured the new police station in the village.
Mr Molale said the development manager was called K-Hill Consortium, a company based in Gaborone and trading in the property development space.
He added that the hospital would provide fully-fledged outpatient department services and in-patient service and would accommodate 73 beds of general ward and maternity, with minimum requirements including administration, outpatient department which covered general OPD with accident and emergency wing, sexual and reproductive health, allied health services which included social work, mental health, dietetics, physiotherapy, and psychology as well as oral health, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy.
He said in-patient services included maternity and general ward for male, female and paediatrics as well as support services such as procurement services, laundry, catering unit, mortuary, engineering workshops and waste management unit.
Parliament also heard that the hospital would comprise a 73-bed facility which included or catered for the facilities and services of six beds for admissions observations two for males, two females and two for children or paediatrics.
Mr Molale explained that the development manager was still developing concept and detailed designs for the primary hospital.
“Thereafter, a maximum guaranteed price (MGP) for the primary hospital will be determined.
“Notwithstanding this, I must inform this house that the current development cost for a primary hospital through the conventional method is around P800 million,” he said.
He pointed out that the amount was extrapolated from the construction of the Moshupa Hospital which was nearing completion and included various hospital buildings, 65 staff houses and installation of biomedical equipment.
He emphasised that the project aimed to upgrade the primary hospital in Palapye, in order to improve access to healthcare and also ensure the physical, mental, and social well- being of every Motswana to enable them to fully contribute to the development of Botswana through a healthy nation.
Palapye MP, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi had asked the minister to update Parliament on the construction of Palapye Hospital and state where the site was located and commencement date of the project.
Mr Ramogapi also wanted to know, among others, the names of the consultants managing the project, the envisaged total beds, rooms, services to be offered as well as the description of the construction project and expected date of construction and approximate budget of the project.
