Nyangabgwe Hospital Launches Child-Friendly Theatre

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Ministry of Health has expressed gratitude to Mr Steve Lansdown and Mrs Margaret Lansdown for their contribution through KidsOR, which made the installation of a child-friendly operating theatre at Nyangabgwe Hospital possible. The new facility was officially unveiled this week, marking a significant step in improving surgical care for children.

KidsOR is a global initiative that installs operating theatres designed specifically for children. With the support of Mr and Mrs Lansdown, Nyangabgwe Hospital now has a state-of-the-art theatre that meets the unique needs of young patients. This comes a few months after a similar project was completed at Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone.

The customised theatre at Nyangabgwe Hospital is equipped with modern surgical tools and child-focused facilities. It is designed to improve access to surgical care, reduce waiting times, and create a more comfortable environment for children undergoing procedures. Families visiting the hospital will benefit from a space that is safe, welcoming, and tailored to children’s needs.

This development strengthens Botswana’s healthcare system by increasing capacity for paediatric surgeries. It also demonstrates the impact of partnerships between the government and global initiatives like KidsOR. With both Nyangabgwe and Princess Marina hospitals now equipped with child-friendly theatres, more children across the country will receive timely surgical care.

The Ministry of Health highlighted that this initiative reflects its commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for children. The new theatre at Nyangabgwe Hospital is expected to reduce surgical backlogs and enhance the quality of care, providing a model for future expansions in paediatric healthcare services nationwide.
