Africa-Press – Botswana. South African gospel group Omega Circle has released a deeply reflective new EP titled “Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother,” a project shaped by memory, loss, and the healing power of faith.

The EP was born out of a deeply personal milestone. Earlier this year, the songwriter behind the project realized that two decades had passed since the loss of his mother — a realization that sparked a wave of creative reflection and spiritual expression.

“Losing a mother is perhaps one of the hardest things one will experience,” he says. “It’s the kind of loss that can shake your foundation and make you question the world around you. But in that emptiness, I learned to lean into God and trust Him to guide me through.”

That sense of surrender and faith forms the emotional backbone of the EP. Throughout the project, the phrase “Ndithembe kuwe,” meaning “I trust in You,” appears repeatedly, anchoring the songs in a message of trust in God during times of pain and uncertainty.

The idea for the EP came unexpectedly. One February morning, feeling uninspired and disconnected from music, the songwriter was struck by the realization that it had been 20 years since his mother passed away. In that moment, he began imagining the songs they might have shared — songs of worship that could have been sung together.

“In that moment of reflection, I started writing the songs I believe my mother and I would have sung together,” he explains. “Maybe even with my children — the grandchildren she never got to meet.”

The songwriting process unfolded naturally, with some songs arriving in the quiet hours before dawn and others appearing during ordinary moments of stillness. Each track was written specifically for the project, with one exception: a reimagined version of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, which serves as the EP’s opening introduction.

More than just a musical release, the project stands as a tribute to the woman who first shaped the artist’s understanding of love and faith.

“This EP is an ode to a first love — the woman who taught me how to love myself and how to love God,” he says. “Worship songs become a bridge that connects us to the warmth and love we carry in our memories.”

With its intimate storytelling and worship-centered sound, “Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother”transforms personal grief into a spiritual offering, inviting listeners to reflect on their own journeys of loss, faith, and healing.
