Africa-Press – Botswana. It is important for technical and vocational training institutions to forge partnerships with communities and the private sector to advance growth and enhance the quality of education, Assistant Minister of Higher Education, Mr Justin Hunyepa has advised.
Addressing Maun Technical College staff recently, he said management should effectively collaborate with the community, bogosi, government departments as well as private companies to tackle burning issues.
Mr Hunyepa said he was impressed with students’ projects and was convinced that they could be engaged to carry out maintenance of some of the public facilities and appealed to government departments and private companies to allow learners to understudy them.
The assistant minister said technical colleges and brigades were designed to provide a partial solution to unemployment challenges in the country noting “people should understand that these institutions are an economic drive that reshape industries and societies”.
North West District council chairperson, Mr Itumeleng Kelebetseng asked that the ministry appoint a task team to look into challenges some of affected operation and performance of learners.
He also called for review of some policies and laws so that were in sync with the aspirations of the current administration. Mr Kelebetseng pledged the council support saying, they would do their best to avail opportunities for learners.
