PHIRI TAKES OVER REINS AT SOUTHERN DISTRICT COUNCIL

Africa-Press – Botswana. Two Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)councillors, Messrs Sonny Phiri and Mpho Dithole have taken over the leadership of the Southern District Council as chairperson and deputy respectively.

Their election, during a recent special full council meeting, was necessitated by the upgrading of Good Hope Sub-district into a full fledged municipality.

Mr Phiri, who was unopposed, thanked councillors for demonstrating their trust in him.

He underscored the need for all councillors and council staff to work as a collective to bring services to the community.

In the vice chairperson race, Mr Dithole garnered 25 votes against Mr Kagiso Moswarane’s 15.

For the Kanye Administrative Authority positions, the status quo was maintained as both chairperson, Mr Simon Ramaphoi and his deputy, Mr Sebati Ramaphoi, were unopposed.

In other contests, Moshupa Sub-district chairperson, Mr Peter Sethibe retained his seat after defeating Mr Motlhalosi Kelobang with 10 votes. Mabutsane Sub-district chairperson, Mr Poloko Mokwaise took over from Mr Kgopolo Seammere-Ramosesane while Mr Sabata Dikgokgwane assumed the position of deputy chairperson, taking over from Ms Tshupoentle Kgetsi.
