Africa-Press – Botswana. The police have on Thursday airlifted 87 learners from Malelejwe settlement, which is about 22km south of Sowa, to their respective schools in Nata and Sowa Town.
The learners, who are under the Rural Area Dwellers (RADs) programme and boarders at several schools, had missed lessons from Tuesday, when schools reopened due to torrential rains that caused the overflowing of Mosetse River making it difficult for them to return to school.
Tutume District Commissioner, Ms Tlotleng Rampha said while flooding affected most parts of the area, Malelejwe settlement was not affected, adding that the learners had to be airlifted from the area so that they could start lessons.
Also, she said 27 families were temporarily relocated from Tshwaane settlement to Sowa following severe flooding.
