Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has thanked Barolong for trusting government to deliver on its promises and mandate.

He was speaking in Phitshane Molopo Wednesday where he was on a tour to appreciate and handover Goodhope Water Supply Project Phase II.

The President said he was proud to be handing over the biggest water project, which ran from Dikgatlhong Dam all the way to Sekhutlane settlement and would alleviate water shortage, which the district had been faced with.

He thanked Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila, his team and Water Utilities Cooperation, for being able to deliver a project of such magnitude.

Minister Mzwinila said the Goodhope water supply project would serve 24 villages in the district.

He said they would have to clean and test the water first before it could be used, including reservoirs, an exercise he said was expected to last up to end of the month or before then, to ensure that the water met set standards for human consumption.

Dr Mzwinila explained that the project that was done in phases finished on time and within budget and also that local contractors were engaged.

Minister of Finance, Ms Peggy Serame said for the last five years, government spent P5 billion on sanitation and water development. She said government had a plan to use 30 per cent of the development budget to address water shortage.

Kgosi Odirile Sekwenyane believed that the new developments would had positive outcomes in the village.
