Africa-Press – Botswana. The 51st Botswana Police Senior Officers Annual Conference has resolved to prioritise the use of technology for predictive policing in order to enhance crime prevention, response, detection and deterrence for ensuring safer communities.

Presenting conference resolutions before closing on Thursday, BPS public relations officer, Assistant Commissioner Near Bagali said the BPS resolved to prioritise the use of technology in its fight against crime to address the prevailing levels of fear of crime and the brutality in the manner of commission of such crime.

“In recognising crime as a social phenomenon, and to promote community-based efforts in the fight against crime, the conference has resolved to prioritise police-public partnerships as a vehicle for a collaborative approach in the fight against crime,” he explained.

Further, Ass. Commissioner Bagali said the conference noted, for replication, the positive spirit on enhancing collaborative pathways as espoused in the 2025 National Crime Prevention Conference.

Therefore, to ensure customer satisfaction in provision of policing services, he said the conference also resolved to leverage on cutting-edge technologies, including digital advances to optimise service delivery.

Additionally, in recognising the challenging policing environment where officers are exposed to adverse traumatic situations from crime scenes and road traffic accidents, he said the conference had also committed the BPS to prioritise mental health and wellness.

In his closing remarks, Acting President, also Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa expressed gratitude that during the conference, BPS came up with innovative resolutions of how best to continue improving their operations and service delivery to Batswana ‘even in the face of your prevailing challenges’.

“This shows that you are committed to serve the nation and I applaud you all for that.

Do not despair, because we acknowledge and appreciate your efforts and the sacrifices you continue to make,” he said.

In her welcome remarks earlier, Commissioner Dinah Marathe of Botswana Police said the three-day conference, which was held under the theme; Innovative Approaches in Modern Policing: Closing the Gaps and Building Trust, was meant to review all areas of the BPS operation including processes, laws and regulations to come up with ways of improving the organisation’s efficiencies.
