Revision Books to Improve Learners Grades

Africa-Press – Botswana. Cresta Mahalapye has extended its support to local education by donating Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) revision books to St. Patricks Memorial School and Xhosa Primary School in Mahalapye.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony held at St Patricks Memorial School on Tuesday, Mahalapye West MP Mr David Tshere highlighted the importance of books in the academic life of learners as they were a source of information. Mr Tshere, who is also Minister of Communication and Innovation, applauded Cresta Mahalapye for the donation adding that it was a symbol of inspiration towards upgrading learners’ grades and knowledge. He also said the books would help lay a foundation for a better future, as they were the leaders of tomorrow.

Mr Tshere said ever since he introduced performance improvement initiative in all schools of his constituency by awarding the best performing students with laptops and the best performing teachers with monetary prizes there was no school under the 50 per cent mark. He said that everyone should play a role in assisting with developing schools by collaborating with the government. Mr Tshere said as the country continued to tackle numerous challenges, communities were expected to come up with ways of being self-reliant.

Speaking at the Xhosa Primary School handover, Mahalapye East MP Mr Augustine Nyatanga who is the Assistant Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, said the donation from Cresta Mahalapye was a form of love and learners should appreciate the gesture because it came from a good place.

“As young as you are you should focus on your studies and work hard to attain good marks and knowledge because it will take you far, hence I am here before you trying to show you that we are working very hard to ensure you get to be leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

Mr Nyatanga also highlighted the significance of education urging teachers to continue being resilient as they contributed towards the lives of the young people. Furthermore, he said that they were planning on having Mahalapye East performance awards.

Cresta Mahalapye Hotel general manager, Dr Seth Mongwaketse said the government had put in place an act which stated that businesses should contribute towards the development of communities they were in. He said cresta saw it fit to have a hand or contribute towards education hence the donation of revision materials to the two schools. Mr Mongwaketse encouraged the pupils to focus fully on their studies so that their efforts did not end up in vain.

“Your school head said that they want 90 per cent pass so we hope you will not disappoint them because reaching the target requires your full dedication towards studying,” he said.

He noted that they had also been to Shoshong Primary School doing the same gesture and school had been doing well as it took the first position for the whole region the past year.
