Africa-Press – Botswana. Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane is expected to be part of the SmartBots Village Connectivity Project Launch, the main event of which will take place at Maun main kgotla.

The event will be held on a trilateral basis, digitally connecting dikgotla in Maun, Palapye and Molepole, with Vice President Tsogwane attending the Palapye event.

This is a flagship project that aims to accelerate digital connectivity by deploying state of the art ICT infrastructure to more than 500 villages in the country.

One may wonder how this has benefitted Batswana in areas where free internet is already available.

BOPA took to the streets of Palapye to get first hand information from the end users.

Mr Botlhe Monthe, a student at Palapye Technical College expressed gratitude for the initiative.

Free internet should be regarded as a necessity and availing it at no cost will enable many people access to internet because not everyone can afford data, Mr Monthe said.

He said this was about an array of services.

Another resident, Mr Mothusi Sikwane, who sells vegetables said free Wi-Fi makes things easier for him.

He said the internet presented opportunities for his business as it allowed him to buy and sell products using Facebook and WhatsApp.

“I am able to advertises my business and communicate with different suppliers to find out where I can source products,” he said.

Ms Kebonye Omphile said the availability of free Wi-Fi services brought significant changes in her life because she was always up to date on issues and it also came in handy when searching for employment opportunities.
