Africa-Press – Botswana. Testerday’s claiming of bronze by Botswana’s 4X400-metre men’s team at the 2025 World Athletics Relays at Guangzhou’s Guangdong Olympic Stadium in China is a clear indication that the country’s athletics is a force to rekcon with.

For the team to have made it to the podium was demonstration of the depth it possessed in the quatermile event.

The quartet; Bhekempilo Eppie, Justice Oratile, Kabo Rankgwe and Leungo Scotch stopped the clock with a Season’s Best time of 2:58.27.

Position one went to South Africa with a World Lead time of 2:57.50, followed by Belgium with 2:58.19.

It was a mission accomponished for the team, given that the instruction was clear from the technical team, for them to qualify for the World Athletics Championships, to be held in Tokyo and make a podium finish.

The team outdid themselves given that they did not have their team members, Bayapo Ndori, Collen Kebinatshipi and Letsile Tebogo, who withdrew from the race for personal reasons.

Botswana Athletics Association vice president, Oabona Theetso expressed heart-felt gratitude for the team’s sterling performance on behalf of the federation.

“They were the defending champions. We are happy that they made it to the podium,” he said.

Theetso observed that Oratile, in particular, was a new kid on the block, but his calm composure after receiving the baton was magnificent.

He said Scotch’s maturity in leading and guiding the team throughout the race was also out of this world, given all other three relay members were debutants at the World Relays.
