Africa-Press – Botswana. The story of Mark and Brett Ellithorne is one that perfectly encapsulates the sentiment: Like father, like son.

The Ellithornes, both from Watson Construction in Francistown, emerged this year’s Clifton College Annual Golf Tournament champions.

Last year, they had come agonisingly close, settling for second place, a bitter pill to swallow.

That is why this time around they came guns blazing, determined to avenge that failure and claim victory.

This dynamic father-son duo stormed the course at the Pamogrante Golf Estate over the weekend, showcasing incredible skill and teamwork across all 16 holes.

They faced stiff competition from golfers representing Maun, Francistown, and Orapa, but they proved to be an unstoppable force.

They were a true hard nut to crack, outplaying their rivals with precision and determination.

It was a fiercely contested battle for bragging rights and, more importantly, funds for the expansion of the college’s facilities.

The duo was a formidable pair and their game was a symphony of precision.

Brett, youthful and dynamic, possessed a powerful drive and an almost uncanny ability to sink long putts.

Mark, with years of experience etched onto his every swing, displayed the calm, strategic approach of a seasoned veteran.

They complemented each other perfectly, their combined strengths forming an impenetrable wall against their competitors. The final hole was a tense affair.

The crowd, a mix of Clifton College alumni, residents of Francistown, Maun, and Orapa, and other stakeholders, held their breath. Every shot was greeted with a hush, punctuated only by the rhythmic thud of the ball against the turf. With nerves of steel, the Ellithornes played their cards, literally and figuratively.

Their victory was a testament to years of dedication, countless hours spent honing their skills, and the unbreakable bond between them.

The ‘Gods of golf,’ as some whispered, had finally answered their prayers. In the second place and third place were Ishmael Mitawa and Mack Tabudi both from Pamogrante Golf Club.

While the longest drive in the men’s and ladies’ categories went to Dion Foster and Myra Collington respectively, also from Pamogrante Golf Club.

Wonter Burger, one of the organisers said the tournament had been a resounding success.

“We have attracted golfers from across the country, and the funds raised will go a long way towards building the new sports facility and additional classroom blocks that Clifton College so desperately needs. A special thank you to our sponsors, chiefly Hollard Insurance company, for their invaluable support.” he added.
