Africa-Press – Botswana. President Duma Gideon Boko has reaffirmed his commitment to steering Botswana toward a new development path through the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme labs. Speaking on the initiative, he stressed that the purpose of the labs is to refine, align, and elevate their work to the levels that match the aspirations of the nation.
Central to his message was the idea of the “True North.” He described this as the country’s desired development trajectory. His vision for Botswana’s True North is a high-income economy that is digitally enabled, export driven, people-centric, and economically diversified. He stated that every citizen must have equal opportunity, employment, empowerment, and fulfillment in this vision.
The labs, which serve as platforms for innovation and strategy, have already produced notable outcomes. The Financial Services and Digitalisation Lab delivered a detailed mapping of the national digital landscape and ecosystem. This included identifying reforms necessary to build an inclusive and secure digital environment. In agriculture, the labs outlined bankable projects designed to reduce import dependence, promote import substitution, and expand export capacity. The goal is to secure food supplies while creating sustainable livelihoods for citizens.
President Boko called on all stakeholders to remain committed, accountable, and united to achieve transformation. He highlighted that for Botswana, transformation is not optional but a shared destiny.Travel magazine
He also made it clear that leadership will be measured by results. Delivery, he said, is the only true measure of leadership. He urged his Cabinet and colleagues in government to rise to the occasion and ensure the transformation agenda is driven with urgency and precision.
The Botswana Economic Transformation Programme continues to position itself as a catalyst for change, aligning the nation’s ambitions with practical reforms that can lead to inclusive and sustainable growth.
