Africa-Press – Botswana. MmaBotswana spokesperson, Pastor Thapelo Butali has appealed to business communities to support youthful entrepreneur, Ms Tshegofatso Tlholwe to accomplish her mission of completing a 2 125 kilometre sponsored walk across the country.
Pastor Butali said in an interview that the walk aims to raise funds for construction of a youth centre in Thamaga that would serve fellow youths including the unemployed and out of school. The walk, expected to be completed on September 8 covers Maun, Rakops, Letlhakane, Francistown, Selebi Phikwe, Palapye, and Gaborone among others.
He noted that through the MmaBotswana Sponsored Walk, Ms Tlholwe would also be championing recognition of creative arts industry as a vital driver of the country’s economic development. He noted that 35-year-old Tlholwe and her team commenced the walk beginning of June from Thamaga via Moshupa, Kanye, Jwaneng and they were currently at Mabutsane heading to Ghanzi, before proceeding to Maun. He appealed to the public and the business community to assist the team to achieve their mission.
He was of the view that the centre could be a catalyst for positive change in lives of young people as they could meet and participate in a variety of activities as well as promote creative arts. Pastor Butali further appreciated that Ms Tlholwe was concerned about high unemployment among young people and had been conducting some empowerment workshops to drill them on how they could convert their talents into income generating enterprises and eventually create employment opportunities for others.
Ms Tlholwe shared with BOPA that the journey had not been easy given the challenges experienced. However, she was optimistic that she would complete her mission and achieve her dream of making the world a better place for young people.
“All routes to find true success start with having a dream and then working hard to make the dream come true. Despite the challenges I encounter, I will soldier on,” she added.
She prides herself that so far, she had empowered over 200 youths and launched eight promising youth ventures.
