Africa-Press – Botswana. Trans Cash and Carry Botswana officially handed over a fully constructed clinic to the Ministry of Health.
The facility, a corporate social responsibility initiative is an Outpatient Department (OPD) and represents an upgrade of the Sebego Health Post.
Located in Kanye’s Sebego Ward, the clinic is expected to start operating in the coming days, with an official launch date to be announced.
It comprises several service areas including an OPD waiting area, administration room, registration room, two general consultation rooms, dressing and injection room, emergency room, kitchenette, staff ablution facilities, screening room, dispensary, and a drugstore.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Gaborone on Friday, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Ms Oatlhokwa Nkomazana expressed gratitude to Trans Botswana for the generous donation, noting that the facility would improve access to healthcare services for Kanye residents and surrounding villages.
She commended the wholesale retailer for supporting the ministry’s mandate to deliver accessible, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative health services aimed at improving the quality of life for all citizens.
She further assured the public that the clinic would soon be furnished with biomedical equipment, ICT systems, and additional furniture to enable full operation.
Trans director, Mr Nilesh Barot said the company believed strongly in the importance of private sector participation in national development. He said Trans responded swiftly when approached by government in 2023 about the urgent need for improved healthcare infrastructure. Ground was broken on July 6, last year and construction completed in June.
Mr Barot described the clinic as a symbol of partnership, community, and shared responsibility, emphasising what could be achieved when the government and private sector worked together.
He reaffirmed Trans Botswana’s commitment to supporting community empowerment initiatives and contributing to Botswana’s development agenda.
