Africa-Press – Botswana. Unipesa, a leading provider of white-label fintech infrastructure, is proud to announce it has achieved full PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) certification, the gold standard in payment security. This significant achievement, following a comprehensive four-month audit conducted by Compliance Control in Dubai, positions Unipesa to further support regulated financial institutions and expand secure card processing capabilities across the African market.
PCI DSS, developed by the PCI Security Standards Council (which includes Visa, Mastercard, and AmEx), is a globally recognized framework designed to prevent data breaches and credit card fraud. While not mandatory for alternative payment methods such as mobile money, PCI DSS compliance is critical for entering card infrastructure and scaling banking integrations in regulated environments.
A Strategic Move for a Growing Market
“Over the past two years, Unipesa has significantly expanded its client base. A large number of our current partners are PSPs licensed by their government regulators, and for them, PCI DSS isn’t optional—it’s a prerequisite for handling card-related data. Our clients drive our roadmap, and we are committed to providing them with the infrastructure they can trust,” said Vasily Raku, Chief Commercial Officer at Unipesa.
Beyond PSPs, Unipesa is actively collaborating with small and mid-sized banks across the African payments market, particularly with its POS solutions. Under existing agreements, Unipesa is authorized to issue sublicenses on behalf of its regulated partners, enabling them to operate within a PCI DSS–certified environment.
Technological Excellence and Reliability
“The audit covered the entire payment data flow, from servers, databases, and networks to access controls and change management processes. We even reworked elements of our infrastructure to meet the stringent requirements of the standard,” explained Evgeny Protopopov, Chief Technology Officer at Unipesa. “Although it required substantial effort from our team, the outcome was well worth it. We now offer enhanced service quality, improved data security, and strengthened client trust in the Unipesa brand.”

Customer Trust: Over 70% of consumers stop using a company after a major data breach.
Regulatory Compliance: Meets mandatory requirements for partnerships with licensed PSPs and banks.
Market Access: Opens doors for collaboration with regulated institutions and global card schemes.
