Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verde women’s handball coach, the Portuguese Fernando Fernandes, summoned 17 players for the preparatory work for the Batalha’2023 International Tournament, which will take place from 03 to 05 March in Portugal.
According to the list released by the Cabo Verdean Handball Federation, of the 17 players called up, three reside in the country (all in ABC da Praia) and the vast majority, 14, represent clubs in Portugal.
According to Inforpress, the Cape Verdean team will debut on March 3rd at 6pm local time (5pm in Cape Verde) against Spain.
On March 4th, they face Portugal at 6:00 pm local time (5:00 pm in Cape Verde) and their participation in the tournament ends on March 5th, in a dispute against Italy at 3:30 pm local time (2:30 pm in Cape Verde).
Organized by the Handball Federation of Portugal, the Batalha International Tournament takes place at the Batalha Municipal Pavilion and features the national teams of Cape Verde, Portugal, Spain and Italy.

Goalkeepers: Isandra Semedo (ABC, Praia), Eneida Lopes (ABC, Praia) and Ana Martins (Porto Salvo, Portugal).
Left wing: Marta Coelho (ASS Assomada, Portugal) and Nicole Fonseca (Juve Lis, Portugal).
Right wing: Rute Fernandes (SL Benfica, Portugal) and Djeniffer Veiga (ASS Assomada, Portugal).
Left back: Miriam Almeida (ASS Assomada, Portugal), Iliana Semedo (Gil Eanes, Portugal), Maria Correia (Gil Eanes, Portugal).
Universal: Odete Tavares (SL Benfica, Portugal) and Francisca João (Madeira Sad, Portugal).
Right wing: Adelsa Ribeiro (Benfica Castelo Branco, Portugal) and Jorgeana Carvalho (ABC, Praia).
Pivó: Tânia Afonseca (Gil Eanes, Portugal), Patrícia Tavares (ASS Assomada, Portugal) and Flávia Fernandes (ASS Assomada, Portugal).
Remember that Cape Verde will host the African Senior Women’s Handball Championship in 2024, in yet another organization of the African Handball Confederation.
