Africa-Press – Cape verde. The community of Planalto Norte, municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, will, from now on, have 20 tonnes of water per day for consumption, twice the amount previously available. This is a budgeted investment of 92 million escudos.
According to the Mayor of the municipality, Aníbal Fonseca, with the inauguration, this Saturday, of the water supply system to the North Plateau, through automatic tanks, the inhabitants will benefit, daily, from 20 tons of water.
The water, according to the same source, comes from a spring, located near the Martiene valley, which reaches this location through a pumping system powered by solar energy.

“The water is already available in the reservoirs, now the next step is to build a home network to bring water to people’s homes”, promised the mayor.
For this official, the inauguration of the water supply system in the North Plateau represents the fulfillment of “a dream of generations”.
92 million escudos
The work was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, who highlighted the impact of the project, around 92 million escudos, on retaining the local population and reducing poverty.
The project was financed by the Government of Cape Verde, through the Ministry of Agriculture (POSER program) and had a partnership with the Municipality of Porto Novo, the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANAS), the Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola (ADPM), the Luxembourg Cooperation and the United Nations System in Cape Verde.
