The maritime delegate of Santo Antão, Miguel Gomes, said that around 07:30 today he was informed that a yacht had run aground on one of the beaches of the city of Porto Novo with seven people on board, and that, while being towed to the dock, it sank due to damage caused by the grounding.

“The sailboat was promptly rescued by some boats that were nearby. The vessel was towed to the dock, but it sank due to damage caused during the grounding,” explained Miguel Gomes.

The seven crew members, who were detained by the police for identification, are from Gabon and Ghana, but there are suspicions that there was a Cape Verdean on board, the maritime delegate further stated, believing that the individual may be on the run.
