Africa-Press – Cape verde. Eliezer Soares, from Sal, today won the Giro Praia’2023, by triumphing in the Elite race, over the distance of 85 km. The cyclist crossed the finish line first in a “sprint” of five competitors.
The race had a start and finish line at Largo do Estádio da Várzea, in Praia, and two rounds in São Francisco.
Eliezer was proud of yet another achievement and highlighted the work and dedication he has undertaken to win, including today’s competition which was held under a scorching sun.
The Giro Praia’2023, he guaranteed, was challenging, but the peloton managed to settle down early and reduce it to a group of five cyclists.
However, since he decided to take the lead near the UNICV, in Palmarejo Grande, he has been focused on the title.
“In the end, this finish in sprint was worth it, because I knew how brave my colleague was, but I had the notion that I had better pedaling, I made an effort and won. A different race because Sal has no climbs and this race in Praia has a lot of climbs”, explained Eliezer, who also won the second flying goal of this race.
In competition there were about 52 cyclists, who competed in the Elite, Youth and Veterans categories.
Classification
In the Elite category, Eliezer Soares, from Sal, relegated Hélder Cabral, from São Nicolau, to second place, while Isaías Semedo, from Santiago Norte, closed the podium by positioning himself in third place.
In the Youth category, Leonardo Cosmo, from São Nicolau, was the first to cross the finish line, followed by Nélio Cruz (São Vicente) and Hugo Monteiro, from Santo Antão (third).
In the Master (+40 years) category, Amílcar Frederico, from Santiago Sul, claimed the title, followed by Nelson Miranda “Netcha” from São Vicente and Carlos Mendes (Santiago Sul).
The race carried out by the Regional Cycling Association of Santiago Sul took place as part of the festivities of the Municipality of Praia, an event that is celebrated on the 19th of May.
